Wrappings and Rapture, a Free Excerpt

I wander lost through the desert mirage of her eyes. My throat so parched words no longer come forth. Light gleams from her eyes, their brightness more intense than the midday sun. My flesh boils wherever her gaze sets focus. Evil spirits peer through from doorways, though the light green shades painted upon her eyelids ward their shadows away.

Her face hovers close enough that every warm breath she expels caresses my cheek. Her lips glisten with each passing circle of her tongue. Scenarios of her mouth descending upon my most intimate regions consume all my cognition.

If only I could tell her how she infatuates me, she would certainly swoon into my arms. She would be bestowed with all the privileges of a queen. Temples would be raised in her honor, where priests would kneel in worship of her elegance. Servants would tend to her every whim and I would privately cater to her every intimate desire.

If only I could tell her how much I loved her.

If only I were not dead.

Rudy’s rising voice distracts my captivation. In he walks wearing his usual blue jacket, and a badge bearing his likeness. For an instant I envision him as he was five years ago; hair more red than silver, a strong stance with good posture. That was before his wife died, before devotion to his job became the sole remnant sustaining his life. His gray hair appears a little thinner today, his pants a tad tighter.

“Gather around everybody. I want to tell you about one of our proudest guests here at the Arkham Natural History Museum.” He gathers his flock with an exaggerated wave. “The mummy in the case before us is none other than the great Pharaoh Snowfrue. His body and the treasures you see in this room were all discovered inside a secret tomb below the Red Pyramid in Giza. Even after years of study we still have much to learn about the time when he ruled Egypt.”

If I still had eyes in my sockets I would have rolled them. Snowfrue, really? My name is Sneferu. Is that so difficult to pronounce? I ruled my land for over 50 years, and that tablet over there clearly states that I built far more than the Red Pyramid. Just look at it, you illiterate.

Peeking from behind his mother’s thigh, a curly-haired brat sticks his tongue out at me. How dare he disrespect my majesty with such a disgusting gesture! At one time I would have had both him and his parents lashed with reeds for such blasphemy. In my current state I am powerless to do anything but stare. If only I were able to wave a single finger at him, and send him screaming down the hall.

“Let me introduce you to one of our conservators here at the museum.” Rudy points his wiry finger at the object of my desire. “This is Lillian and she, well…do you have a moment to speak with the tour group about what you do, or are you busy right now?”

She turns from me, her dark hair caressing my skin, her perfume haunting my desire. A smile lifts her lightly freckled cheeks. “Sure thing, Rudy. You know I always have time for you.”

Curiosity focuses their eyes upon her. Jealously smolders within my bandaged chest. My crooked neck, compressed from decay, leaves me no option to trail her. Rather I must gawk across the hall where ceramic jars filled with my organs are on display. The withered husk of my liver clings to the sides of a jar which has been cleanly cut in half for all to see.

“Hello Everybody! My name is Lillian Howell, and I’m the principal conservator for the Grand Hall of Pharaohs exhibit here at the Arkham Museum. Basically I’m responsible for restoring and preserving all of the over two hundred artifacts we have on display. Right now, as you can see, I’m repairing a few wrapping on this mummy. He’s over 4,000 years old, so he’s very fragile.”

Every set of eyeballs glides my way, and every second of this public spectacle humiliates me for its own eternity. The objects gripped in their hands blind me with flashes of bright light.

“Does anybody have any questions?” Lillian turns an ear their way.

“What do you use to preserve the mummy?” A broad woman with no neck barks from her flowered tunic. “I mean, aren’t they already preserved?”

“That’s a great question, thank you. Primarily I use paper made from Japanese mulberry trees and a special paste to reinforce weak spots. Sometimes I also use papier-mâché and color it to match. Even though we keep him inside a glass case, for some reason dust still slips past the seal, so from time to time I need to carefully brush away the build-up. Any other questions?”

“Do you know how the mummy died?” The red-headed child steps forwarded, his pudgy jaw hanging in awe.

“We don’t know exactly, but medical researchers from Miskatonic University performed a number of tests on his body, which show that he may have been poisoned.”

My soul cringes again, even though I have heard the story recounted hundreds of times during my tenure on display. My sweet Lillian recounts the words of fools which are nothing more than a plague of inaccuracies.

So, how did I actually die? How did I come to find myself on exhibit in a foreign land? Step closer, you pack of commoners, so Pharaoh may whisper the truth from his withered lips.

Canopic Jars: Tales of Mummies and MummificationWrapping and Rapture
by Allen Dusk

“Wrappings and Rapture” was Allen’s contribution to an “invite only” H. P. Lovecraft themed anthology that expressly focused on mummies. In addition to this story, there are 29 other amazing tales of mummies and mummification in Canopic Jars.

Here is the official blurb from the publisher:

“From a filmmaker’s perspective, these stories are truly cinematic, with compelling plots and well-drawn characters … It’s anthologies like these that will inspire a new generation of storytellers and keep the current ones working overtime to move and entertain.”

Wayward Drift, My Contribution to the For The Men Anthology

For The Men And The Women Who Love Them - Edited by Rose CarawayMy story “Wayward Drift” was selected to be in this amazing collection of stories known as For The Men And The Women Who Love Them, and it also happens to be the first story that appears in the anthology. That’s a lot of pressure because my story could either be inviting readers to delve further into the anthology, or it could convince them they made a terrible purchase. While this story stands on it’s own, it’s also an indirect continuation of my short story Black Sun Bound. One day I’ll write another story that conclude all of these characters story arcs, or perhaps just sets them up for something bigger.

Here is the publisher’s blurb about For The Men And The Women Who Love Them:

The Sexy Librarian, Rose Caraway presents an anthology intended for the fellas and the women who have an appetite for bold, adventurous erotic storytelling. Escape into the fantastic, the outlandish, and the literary. Get ready for; a space pirate, a cowgirl, an anxious odd man out, an undercover agent, lonely ghosts, a taxi driver with an unexpected topsy-turvy fare, a burly biker who just wants to be cuddled, a bride-to-be with one last oat to sow, The Devil offers a golden deal, a mysterious hitchhiker, strangers and a spontaneous three-way, and a reluctant hitman. You will find these and many more audacious characters playing out intense encounters.

It’s an honor to lie between the covers with all of these fine authors: Jade A. Waters, Terrance Aldon Shaw, Tamsin Flowers, Landon Dixon, Sonnie de Soto, Adrea Kore, D. Lovejoy, Erin Pim, J.T. Seate, Spencer Dryden, Winter Blair, Simon Drax, Lynn Lake, Chase Morgan, Charlie Powell, Josie Jordan, Daily Hollow, Marc Angel, Rachel de Vine, D.L. King, Dorothy Freed, Rachel Kramer Bussel, T.J. Christian, and Emmanuelle de Maupassant.

For The Men And The Women Who Love Them is now available through Amazon.

Wayward Drift on the KMQ PodcastOddly enough, I never wrote a synopsis for this story because I targeted it directly for Rose Caraway‘s latest anthology, For The Men And The Women Who Love Them. The book has been out for a while now it its various forms of ebook, paperback, and audiobook. Rose and many of the other authors have been flooding social media with their love for this project, including photos, blog posts, and interviews.

I’m very happy to announce that Rose released Wayward Drift as an episode for The Kiss Me Quick’s Erotica Podcast.

or
Grab a copy of For The Men And The Women Who Love Them
to enjoy all of the wonderful stories included in the anthology.

I’ve done my fair share of tweeting and posting about the project, but not with extreme veracity that some of my other friends have done. I wrote a quick snippet on world building for Rose’s Tumblr, and I hope other writers find it useful. Emmanuelle de Maupassant has been giving readers a ton of insight on this project with a number of articles and interviews about the authors and their contributions to For the Men And The Women Who Love Them. I’m fortunate to have been mentioned in her post about the anthology’s stories that indulge in fantasies with unusual settings.

If you are a fan of my erotic science fiction, then you should enjoy Wayward Drift. It takes place in the same universe at Terminal Affair, and indirectly ties into Black Sun Bound. One day, some day, I have plans to  write a story that ties all of these stories together.

Enjoy!

A Lovely Conversation About The Girl Alone

It’s been a while since I talked with Rose Caraway about the craft of writing. With the pending release of our audiobook The Girl Alone, it seemed like the perfect time to sit down in front of the microphone. Rose and her husband Dayv produced The Girl Alone audiobook through their company Stupid Fish Productions. It’s always a weird experience for me to hear my stories read by others. I found myself caught up on the story, almost completely forgetting that my imagination had manifested the scenario. I cried when I wrote the story, and dare I admit I cried after listening to it as well.

Head over to Rose’s Sexy Librarian Blogcast to listen to all of her other interviews, but most of all check out Rose’s The Kiss Me Quick’s Erotica Podcast and the other works she has narrated on Audible.com.

Ostara – Filming Begins

Ostara - a short erotic film by Allen DuskIt has long been a goal of mine to create a short erotic film for the sole purpose of submitting it to Dan Savage’s HUMP Film Festival. The challenge for me is that there is a 5 minute time limit on all submissions. I have a tendency for writing long-winded narratives, so it’s a challenge for me to keep things short. Several months ago I finally came up with the idea for an Easter fetish film that I tentatively titled Ostara. In a round about way, according to some historians, Ostara is the Germanic goddess from whom we have derived the spring festival of Easter. If you’ve read or watched Neil Gaiman’s American Gods, then you may recognize the name of this springtime beauty.

Over the past several months I’ve been quietly experimenting with some new video styles I wanted to use for the project. I’ve also been spending long hours skimming through royalty free music sites to find just the right music for the project. I’m still dialing it in, but I have few melodies picked out. Right now I’m weighing between a bouncy EDM track and a darker synthwave piece that is a throwback to the 80s. I’ve also been searching for the actress/model who would be destined to become my Ostara. As luck would have it, I stumbled across Portland-based model Ivy Aura, who was posting samples of her content to social media that were sort of along the line of what I was hoping to use for the film.

This past Saturday, Ivy and I finally connected and set the cameras rolling. She was true professional, and a delight to work with – my mind is already trying to skip ahead to another project we could work on. My level of sarcasm and humor run high when I’m shooting, and she bested me several times with her wit. Now the pressure is on, because not only do I want to create a film that gets selected for HUMP, but I also want to create something that everybody involved will be pleased with. There is no guarantee that Ostara will even get selected for HUMP, so I am emotionally ready if that doesn’t happen. I’ve racked up a few film festival entries and awards in a former life, so I am well aware of the risks and rewards of this gamble. It nothing else, I’ll have a new project for my portfolio,

September 14 is the deadline for HUMP submissions. I’ll be very busy between now and then while I assemble this kinky effort that I am sure will leave some of you scratching your heads, and some of you wringing out your panties. You can follow me on this journey through my Instagram account where I post related photos with the hashtag #OstaraFilm.

Stay tuned and wish me luck!

Ostara Film Completed & Submitted

Ostara - a short erotic film by Allen DuskI’m happy to announce that I completed the final cut of Ostara about 2 weeks ago. While the final project differs a bit from what I initially scripted, I’m happy with what it has matured into. It’s quick, sweet, naughty, and will probably leave most people scratch their heads. I’ve already submitted the film to the Hump Film Festival, the Fish & Chips International Erotic Film Festival, La Boca Erótica, the Hacker Porn Film Festival, and the Cinerotic Erotic Film Festival. I missed a few of festivals that run earlier in the year, so I’ve marked my calendar for their future submission dates. I’m not expecting to far with this little film, but I at least have to try and get it out there.

I’m due to hear back from the Hump Film Festival in October. Depending on the news, and I’ll make a decision then whether or not I post the film online. I need to be careful as some festival rules prevent certain types of screenings, so once things shake out a little more I’ll post the film here on my site.

Now I can go back to writing for a while…although I’m already planning my next film project…

Planchette Film Completed & Submitted

Planchette - a short erotic film by Allen DuskI’m happy to announce that I completed the final cut of Planchette about 2 weeks ago.

Planchette is a love letter to 80’s B horror movies, complete with all of their VHS glitches and synthesizer glory. In the shadows of a darkened apartment, a witch accidentally summons a mischevious spirit. The spirit quickly takes the upper hand, and vaporwave hues bathe their bodies as they embark on a journey of satanic lesbian domination. Planchette features Penelope Davenport as the witch and Monday Jones as the satanic dominatrix, with a special satanic cameo by yours truly, and music by Dance with the Dead

I’ve been planning the film since the beginning of the year, and filming occurred in early June. I had an idea of the story I wanted to tell, but I wanted to explore a new visual style for the narrative. Originally I considered using high contrast black and white, then one night I stumbled across the band Dance with the Dead and the idea hit me… I could turn Planchette into 80’s VHS style movie with a darkwave soundtrack. I practiced creating different 80’s style looks with practice footage until I was happy with the results. To top it all off, Dance with the Dead allowed me to use their track Her Ghost from their album The Shape!

I’ve never planned on making any money with these films…they are just an expensive hobby for me. If they help get my name out there, or allow me to collaborate with other creative individuals, then the investment is well worth it. I have at least two more films planned as of now, and somewhere in between, I need to return to writing. Stay tuned…

Planchette Wins Audience Choice Award

The COVID-19 pandemic has thrown most of my plans in the dumpster fire of 2020, just as I am sure so many of you have experience disruption in your own lives.

During June 2020 the Splice Film Fest transitioned to an online platform. This was great, as the efforts of so many filmmakers could still be enjoyed by viewers. Somewhere in all of the festival festivities, my film Planchette won the Audience Choice Award!

OFFICIAL SELECTION SPLICE Film Fest 2020

This marks my first award for an artistic erotic film. I’ve won a few other awards for other projects in the past, but this one felt extra special because I’m venturing into a new realm of expression. It’s one thing to think to yourself that you are going to make an erotic film with occult overtones that intentionally looks like a bad copy of a copy of a copy or a copy of a VHS tape. It’s a completely insane take to pull it off with a minimal budget, find actors willing to get naked & naughty for your “vision”, and then to spend hours cursing to yourself as you try to zone in on the “look” and “feeling” of the final product.

The jury is still out on Planchette for a number of other festivals that it was submitted to. Ordinarily, I feel I have a snowball’s chance in hell to even be considered for festival entry, and now COVID-19 has diminished that chance into pissing into the sun. I am honored and grateful for all of the festivals that have selected my films so far. The goal of these experiments was more to prove I could make something erotic in a visual medium without it simply being labeled porn.

Planchette is online for free viewing at http://www.allendusk.com/films/planchette/. I’ve been hosting my films with PornHub because I figured that platform would be less riskier for censorship and maybe even some other people will discover my work.

Right before the US started locking down cities, I had 2 film shoots scheduled back to back on a weekend in March. Hopefully once the pandmemic settles down or is finally ended, I’ll be able to get back to work on those.

Cheers!
